The college was established in 1980 by the late Sri Koneru Lakshmaiah and Sri K.Satyanarayana at Vaddeswaram. The late Sri K.Lakshmaiah (graduate of BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore), realizing the scarcity of local engineers, came up with the idea of establishing an engineering college. The Secretary and Correspondent Sri K. Satyanarayana (also a graduate from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore) has since taken over the reins as Chairman. One of the main objectives of establishing the Institute was to develop facilities for studies in a variety of specialized engineering and technological sciences. The need for establishing adequate facilities for postgraduate studies and research was a focal point for the founding years. The college placed 75% from 2003-2009. Once affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, the college was granted autonomy in 2006.[1] It became a Deemed University in 2009,[1] and is now known as Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation.[2]
